If it was 'legally' necessary the forwarder could be questioned and log
files retrieved from servers.
If the person REALLY wanted to remain anonymous he or she would pick proxy
servers that reside in other countries, countries which aren't exactly
friendly to the US or UK, and ones that are specifically made to keep you
anonymous (email traces are cleaned from servers regularly).
If I was to guess I would say that the OP did *not* go to these lengths so,
yes, the feds can trace this.
