I bring your attention to the second 'Feature' listed for WinMx:

    - Share and DOWNLOAD ANY FILE TYPE

    Gerry,
Since you can't remember *exactly* what error message you
got when you installed WinMX, allow me to speculate. When
you run ithe setup wizard after installing, you have a choice
of what type of connection you make to the WinMX network. If
you chose "primary", you would have gotten an error if you
indicated you were on anything less than a DSL line. The
people with primary connections are the ones that form the
backbone of the WinMX network: the primaries connect as a
network and secondaries connect as spokes to the primaries.
Search requests are funneled through the primaries, then
the secondaries connect to each other for the transfers.
Second, when you go searching, you have to change the
type of file you're looking for. When you open the search
window, WinMX defaults to MP3 files. If you look under the
search windows, there are four buttons labeled "Audio",
"Video", "Pictures", and "MP3 Audio". If you push one of
the file type buttons, you get a search for that file type.
If you press the "MP3 Audio" button, it opens a drop-down
menu that gives you a choice of file types to search which
is probably what you're looking for.
Third, depending on when you installed it, you may have
had a disappointing look at the whole thing. There's been
an apparent DDOS attack going on against WinMX lately that
is making it hard to connect, search, and download. For
instance, it's been sitting on a "Connecting..." status
while I've been typing this reply for 5 minutes plus now
and it doesn't look like I'm getting on.
Fourth, for another option, you could try eMule. eMule
is at <http://www.emule-project.net>. eMule is based on the
eDonkey P2P software, and also allows sharing of more than
    just MP3 files.
Just yell if you need more info.....

    LAter,
    Frank

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving
safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming
