    Kiero Problem on W98SE

I know this is not a Kiero forum but am fishing in a river where Kiero's
    are knows to hang out.

I'm a Norton user now. Norton's DRM fiasco (straw in the bunch really)
has convinced me to seek aternatives when my subscription expires in
May04. From lurking around here it seem like AVG & Kiero FW are tempting.

I am currently on XP but happened to pop in an old drive and install 98SE
with all the updates. Why not test out AVG & KFW 4! AVG is fine. KFW
works except, as soon as I try to download a file from a web page
everything slows to a crawl. Mouse barely functional. May respond to
movement 10 sec later but eventually things freeze.

Reboot. Turn off KFW. Go to page and can download same file repeatedly no
problem. Turn on KFW. Problem surfaces immediately on same file.

I checked the Kiero forum and there is someone there who describes this
problem as well. No responses. Maybe when I put it on Xp it will be a non
    issue. Dunno.

Machine is a decent 1.6GHz with a half gig of memory. I'm going through a
Linksys 4 port router on DSL.

Any simple hints from this arena?

    Hi Al,

Sure you're running Kerio 4.xxx - dump it, bad news.
Backup your config file [ persfw.conf ] to diskette, uninstall and go
    with known_good KPF v2.1.5

    FPF 2.1.5 >
    http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-en-win.exe

Until one of us regulars gives *any* KPF build other than 2.1.5 a
    green-light, stay away

Sorry to hear you're having all the trouble, ditch V4.xx and go with
the download I posted and you're cookin' with gas... :-)

    Couldn't agree more.

I gave it a try the other day on my back-up PC, also running W98SE. What
a disaster. A difficult installation, took three re-boots before it got
installed, and then it refused to let my Internet gateway machine,
running XP, talk to my-back up machine. I dumped it after an hour or so
of failing to overcome the problem.

Strong on eye candy, very weak on usability. I'll stick with 2.1.5 which
    continues to give sterling performance.

    Cheers,

    Roy

    Done.

    KPF v2.1.5 installed. Works fine.

Will have to figure out all the frikkin KPF popups since it's in learn
mode. Just opening the yahoo home page there must be 10 of em. Half dozen
different yahoo IPs. Who know what they are. If I click permit with the
rule box checked I may just be opening the barn door - well more like
    taking it off the hinges.

One I saw had "akamai" and I had remembered seeing that in the HOST list.
Looked in HOSTS list and it was there. Not the exact same one but
apparently akamai must be a red flag. Woe is me.....

    Thanks again siljaline
