New to this NG--Spykiller question

I just ran the free spyware scan from the Spykiller by Swanksoft
Technologies website and found I have 67 spyware and adware programs on my
computer. I purchased the software and am waiting for my unlock code.
My question is, should I check all of the programs listed and clean them?
Or are some of them needed for my computer to run correctly, such as
something that is part of XP put in by Microsoft? Or would there be
something like that included. I am totally new to this and don't know what I
should do.
Of course I'm not going to list every program on the scan list but if
someone could alert me to possible red flags I would greatly appreciate it.

I wanted to get a free scan from spykiller.com and
thought that it would be like pestscan.com (that it would
do a scan and thats ALL)-
but I followed the steps and I got the 30 day trial
installed on my pc of spykiller- I decided to uninstall
it and clicked on the uninstall part- But for the last 5
days, the icon on desktop is still there- wont go away- I
cant do the scan but I want ALL of that erased- any help
would be great-

I have an application named SpyKiller downloaded from

When I try to run it, Windows 98 displays an error
message: runtime error 7 "out of memory". In fact, my
computer got plenty of memory. Pentium III 800MHz, 256
Mb of memory, 40 Gb hard drive. Please help!

Just to save other people the hassle of trying to get there money
back.....This is a $50 program that does nothing but look for keywords
(IE scan, advertise, etc,). It claims to be able to stop spyware from
installing, it does no such thing. I installed Kazza while the shield
was on and it did nothing. After intall of Kazza was finished, I
scanned hard drives and Registry and it only found 3 items. I ran
adaware and it found 18 items. This software is a scam. They only
allow you to see the important stuff on your computer if you pay for
it but they claim that there are keyloggers and such on your computer,
they just dont give you the location. I installed SPYKILLER on a fresh
install of winxp and win2000, no network connection and no updates. It
found 7 items. Anyway, just thought i would let people know.

I'll ansewer your question with a rhetorical question.

Why would you want to pay for an application that you can get equal or
better results with other applications that are free?

Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy are very good and have excellent support
forums.

Personal rant:
Many of the new updates to applications now have jumped on the "malware"
bandwagon increasing their bloat. This is just a marketing ploy to sell
more product. Witness Kerio firewall and Norton anti virus to name just
two.

Unfortunately, I freaked out and purchased the software before being
alerted to the fact the retail software is not much better than the free
stuff. On a lighter note though, I got the product on a sale date for $29
instead of $50. So hopefully it will work. I plan to do more research
nowadays :-)

I don't know how this program you speak of actually works... next time
plz put the web address in your post so we can take a look at it...
but all the spyware i ever found on my computer resides in various
places: in the cookie folder; in the downloaded program
( like Kaaza ); in Registry:

i use SypBot and it does a scan of C: drive. i would think that since
i've found spyware in various places on my computer i would want a
spyware scanner that leaves no folder or file un-scanned. spyware is
like a virus... not that it destroys your data but that it certainly
invades your computer by stealth and it consumes resources...besides
it ' phoning home' to whom planted it.

hey, if a baby raper was hiding inside your house threatening your
family would you check for him only in one of your rooms ???

Here is the URL bones for Spykiller. I just typed in "spyware" in my IE
search engine and this was the first on the list and touted it's self as the
#1 rated anti spy/ad ward zapper, for what that's worth. But it does seem to
do a complete computer scan as it tells you everything it is doing while
scanning. I ran it again after it cleaned my system and it found no
suspicious programs. I will try it again maybe tomorrow and see if anything
new has been planted.

You do realize that it is one of the sponsored results. ie. they paid
LookSmart money to be at the top of the search results in MSN search.
