My boss bought Spector 4.0 (he thinks I don't know) and now he wants to
"borrow" my PC. How can I tell if he installs it? Of course, I know he
will, but how can I verify that it has been installed? Any help would be

Do you mean that you own it, or does he, and you merely use it?

Yes, Roy. I get it. But when a friend (or so I thought) hires you, then
puts spyware on your(OK, HIS) PC without any notice, it's a bit troubling.
However, you know we all use company phones and PCs for personal business
(banking, email) on occassion. I would have at least appreciated some
notification that our usage would be monitored. I used to think my boss was
actually a friend of mine, but I guess I now have to realize that he is
going to treat me with distrust. Though I certainly have the technical
ability to spy on him via his PC, I have the integrity to never do it. I
just feel very violated right now.
I only wish I could find out where Spector stores its data files. Maybe
they've already been sent to him. I guess there's not much I can do.

No, that's not true. Anyway, you can't justify your errant behavior
by saying that "we all" do it. That's just not the right way.

destroy your boss' files, do you?

Ah, you are beginning to see that this "violation" is just in the
course of things. That's a good first step. Since you don't sound
like you're going to punch the guy in the head and walk out the door
as a real man would, you are probably wise to start accepting the fact
that he's got power over you and will use it as he pleases.
Maybe he'll install cameras in the bathrooms next.
I recommend daily internet visits to main stream religious sites or sites
about how to be a more productive employee. When you know someone is
looking you have the advantage.
Or..Look at a couple of Gay sites and hope to get fired so you can sue.

Or suggest to your boss that he might like to think about a 'firewall' for
the office computer network. If you can't connect to anything but the
places or people required for business, then he won't have anything to log
or complain about and your privacy will be secure)

A keylogger detector could miss a keylogger IMO. There is however
another option. Keep in mind that a keylogger may/may not be working
all the time (I.E. when you are actually using the computer) in order
to avoid people noticing disk activity when they are doing nothing.
Try this :
(1) Start your computer.
(2) Make sure that all your "system" and "hidden" files can be seen.
(3) Disconnect from the net and make sure you have as close to no
programs/utilities running as possible.
(4) Do nothing for 1 1/2 hours.
(5) For the next 20 minutes write/save notepad "text" files. Then
stop.
(6) Show only files altered/created during the last 1 hour.
Every result should be in the notepad directory and/or where you saved
your notepad file(s). Anything else may be text, or screen captures,
from a keylogger.
