    Free Anti-Virus and Firewall

    Is this program worth downloading?
My Norton's is about to expire.

    http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/

*Exclusive offer for Microsoft customers. Free 12-month software
subscription to CA's eTrust EZ Armor Antivirus and Firewall security suite
valid for new users only. Limit 1 per household. Not to be combined with any
other offer. Customers may renew subscription after first year at current
renewal rate. Free software offer expires 6/30/04.

    Tom:

I've used both NAV and eTrust EZ Armor Antivirus (and it's earlier version
Inoculate) and I much prefer NAV. The earlier and free Inoculate was nice,
at some point CA redesigned the software and IMHO both the GUI, stablity
and speed were not as good as the original product.

    Good luck,

    Steve

They went back to the Inoculate look some time ago, something to do with
update bugs. Still far better than the resource hog Norton is IMO.

    Darkhorse:

Thanks for the info. I felt that Inoculate was a good product that was easy
on resources. If the price is right, then , maybe I'll go back to it.

True, Free is great, but when you forget to pay or de-install it after it expires, what
headaches are there to be encountered??? Kerio and others in the "Freeware" arena as with
several AV products will get you further and less hassles than forgetting to renew or be
buggered after you fail to do so are much more stable and hassle-free..Norton, IMHO is a
bigger Virus than Windoze(so it goes that anything M$ offers thru their site is quite as
devious and troublesome too)....Oh..what about the EULA of the Free-trial?? How much
information do you agree to part with unbeknownst to you??

Have you tryed AVG Free http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php look on left
side for free download. I've used it with success and it has prevent several
emails with the Swen virus and detected and isolated another one. I used NAV
for years but their support went to H!!! and it slows your system waydown. I
also tested a new Beta from Microtrend but have not seen it as a release
yet. it slowed the system too much when the realtime scan was enabled. I
tryed the purchase version of AVG but found a bug in it when I scheduled a
daily scan. I am presently running the free version, not all the
capabilities of the purchase version but it has keep my system Virus free.
