I know you don't. Nonetheless there is no legitimate reason for any
software vendor to require you to give them administrator privileges
on your system in order to use their software. Especially if they are
going on about how security conscious they are.

It wouldn't matter if you kept your computer sealed in a vault in the
middle of the Gobi desert. The fact remains that a EULA is a contract
whose terms you agree to when you install and use a piece of software.
And Microsoft requires you agree to leave your computer open to their
downloads. You are in violation of that agreement but you agreed to
abide by it when you loaded up and used the software. This isn't FUD.
The EULA of those two software packages are quite explicit in their
conditions. WMP 9 incorporates DRM features that it intents to force
down its users throats. WinXP SP1 incorporates security features
(Microsoft's security) that it fully intends to implement. It will be
interesting to see what the EULA for WinXP SP2 says.

Wait until all those copies of WMP9 stop playing so-called "secure
content" and refuses to start playing them until the user goes on-line
and allow Microsoft's downloads into them.
