Do AdAware and Spybot work in Mozilla?

Since Mozilla stores its cookies differently and in a different place
than Internet Explorer, I assume that programs like AdAware and Spybot
(used to locate spyware and third-party cookies) won't work with
Mozilla.

Is this true? If yes, what are some freeware equivalents of AdAware
and Spybot that will work in Mozilla?

They are stand alone programs. They don't run inside a browser....

If you set Spybot to clear usage tracking (in settings), it will find
your Mozilla cookies and cache. I don't know about AdAware.

How do get to the "Settings" in Spybot?
According to their Help file, you have to start Spybot in "Advanced" mode
instead of "Basic" mode. How do you do this?

Start >> Programs >> Spybot - Search and Destroy >> Spybot - S&D
(advance mode)

Does it for me.

If you use a desktop icon, once Spybot is open go to -

Settings >> Settings >> Desktop Icon >> check Advance Mode

Works for me. They find the executables and dll files that certain
spyware leaves on your system they might miss cookies, but that is
easily taken care of.

Mozilla allows you to set your browser to throw out the cookies with
each session (or at least the K-Meleon variant does). You can also
make the cookie folder "read only" Which also throws out the cookies
when the browser closes. K-Meleon has a built in cookie manager -
surely Mozilla does also?

Yes. Plain vanilla Mozilla does too.

It does have a builtin one.
I also like to use an addon called cookiebar (http://cookiebar.mozdev.org/)
which shows the cookies in the sidebar.

Thanks. My regular email account gets no spam and is text only.

What I think would be cool is something that shows clear GIFs in the
browser to see which sites are trying to track surfers.

Using the Mozilla privacy feature that kills images from outside
domains probably kills web bugs.

Web Washer will kill them and you can set it up to alert you by
substituting your own gif - but that prevents most web sites from
loading.
