    Red Sherrif

    Hi,
This Red Sherrif Data miner company is expanding its business here in
NZ. The largest ISP and newspaper plus dozens of others have started
using it on their web pages, I have emailed my thoughts and opinion on
it to them. The reply that I received is a glowing one on how lucky the
thousands of internet users are to have such a company that offers so
much for us all,it is the worlds largest and most accurate marketing
tool etc etc. I know that it is not new to the users in other countries
so is it in fact a harmless cookie or did they reply with a load of
    animal manure?
Any comments, experience, etc would be appreciated by this "Old Timer"

    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Geordie.

You can block redsheriff [IMR Worldwide] with a HOSTS file:

By adding these DNS loopback blocks, data-mining will be kept to a minimum.

Values to add to your current HOSTS, if available, if none, URL follows.

    127.0.0.1 measurement.redsheriff.com
    127.0.0.1 wxx.redsheriff.it [ 'w' replaces 'x' [obfuscated].
    127.0.0.1 wxx.redsheriff.com [ ditto, as above ].
    127.0.0.1 server-au.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-dk.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-it.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-no.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-nz.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-sg.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-uk.imrworldwide.com
    127.0.0.1 server-us.imrworldwide.com

URL for HOSTS, that I use and recommend.

HTH and post back if you have further questions.

Redsherif is much more widespread than the 11 entries you provide. I count
47 entries in hpguru's HOSTS file.

    YK,
I'm getting *really* tired of doing this dance with the MVPS HOSTS and the "hpguru" HOSTS.

What I quoted is current, you can use what you like, those that I posted are current and
apply _only_ to a Windows HOSTS file.

I just went to that URL. It said:

"Since there is no software installed on the user's computer, programs such
as Aluria Spyware Eliminator, Ad-aware, and Spybot are unable to protect
users from Red Sheriff's methods of internet usage tracking. That doesn't
mean that you are completely helpless if you prefer not to be branded by Red
Sheriff and tracked as you graze the internet prairie. "

What a load of ****! Ad-Aware finds their cookies. So does Spybot. Once
found, it gets rid of them. The person who wrote that above in that article
    is a twit!

Ad-aware may find their cookies, but I doubt it blocks their other
Spyware such as the Java Applet.

You actually allow java on your machine? OK if that is what you want to do.
So, you go to web sites without a firewall set to BLOCK java until you are
    happy it is safe? Shame!
