    Spybot/AdAware clean, still get popups

    Hello...

I'm getting spontaneous popups when IE is not open.

Spybot, AdAware and virus-scan come back clean. All
progs are current versions with updated def's. Nothing
unusual in add/remove programs that I can see.

    Any suggestions? WinXP-Pro sp1 and IE6 sp1, both will
    all crit updates.

    Thx,
    D.

Best choise: get rid of Mico$oft.

    2nd best choice:
This is messenger spam. close port 135 udp or disable the messenger service
(not the instant messenger but the service for network popups)

135 already closed. I'll stop and disable the
messenger service. We'll see how it goes. These popups
sure don't look like network messaging. They look like
    full-blown html internet explorer pages.

    Thx,
    D.

I hate spam - PLEASE get rid of the spam before emailing me!
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Stop Messenger service and/or use your XP firewall!

As I mentioned earlier, 135 is closed (I'm behind a
corporate firewall, virtually everything is closed) and the
messenger service is stopped/disabled. Still have the
    problem.

    Thx,
    D.

Thanks...looks like that's my last hope.

Are you using a popup terminator too? I use Free Surfer mk II that
lists the popups that are terminated and ones that got through and
become active. Sandboxer.com was the culprit. Spybot couldn't fix the
problem on my system either. But I did eventually solve it:

If that were the case you wouldn't be getting these problems so fairly
    obviously it isn't the case.
