Links to Ebay fail , browser problem ....

I'm a pretty regular Ebay UK browser .
Problem is that for a few days now , I haven't been able to connect to Ebay
    UK.
    All I get is " Can't find Server " .
I can get onto the US ebay site , but when I click on a particular item ,
    more often than not , I'm back to " Can't find Server " .

None of my other browser activity is afected .
I ran an XP system restore to before when I remember the problem ... no
    luck , it's still faulty .
I've run a virus program on the whole PC .
I have Symantec's firewall in place all times .

Very annoying , and puzzling ?

    Any help please .

    Chris

DNS hijack maybe? Find out what the ip address of the website is - do
    a whois here:
    http://www.all-nettools.com/tools1.htm
Than try accessing the website by ip address instead.

Do a crapware check with Spybot S&D then HijackThis. Start with this
    SWI Forums article:

If you have the fiirewall blocking the following:
    Msg Request: GET
    http://www.ebay.com/ticker/ebayticke.../www.ebay.com/
    ticker/ebay_tswf_2.1.3.swf&iurl=http%3a//www.ebay.com/ticker/UStickerJS.html
    &clickTAG=http%3a//altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/ck/1065-8992-5718-0?ck=alt

then that is likely your problem. If this first request is blocked then it
takes several seconds for an ebay timeout to occur and the page load to
continue. Most proxies and firewalls will timeout before this time and
    declare the server as non-existent.

This is actually a cute trick to ensure you are tracked.

On the home ebay page, this request is passed to mediaplex.com. This request
does not contain a referer field. So this request does not look like a
"third party request" so the cookie inside is not a third party cookie. See
http request below under line reading: Original Request. On subsequent
pages, the referer is included but the cookie in the request isn't needed.
Look at the url of the request to see why:
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630
    a.. Subpage Request: GET
    http://altfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/bn/1...=1067038885630

I am session 1065-9875...., I'm guessing that this number is embedded in the
cookie of the original request - the one that ws not a third party cookie.
The "-1" , "-2", etc is actually the order that my proxy sent the request
out to mediaplex.com while loading a second ebay page.

Here is a good site for info and tools:
    http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/bt...btw-intro3.htm

For a good http proxy tool to work for me and let me see what is going on,
    I like:
