I-Download ,It's a major PIA -I can't get rid of it!
I'm Running w2k/sp2//IE6
I've tried:Spybot Search/Destroy and a few others.
I've heard Pest Patrol will get rid of this foul beast, is it true?
Thx -DW

Since I left the land of Windows long ago, and you haven't provided many
details to someone not familiar with it, all I can say is the standard
stuff- most Spyware bites into the Windows registry- if you got a
known-clear backup of that, use it (you DO backup one of the most
targetted areas of the system, don't you? export > Reg. > All keys >
filename.reg ). If not, check the auto-run fields of the reg, they are
in HKLM > software > microsoft > windows > currentversion >, named like
"run","runonce", etc. Look for any odd files and kill them, watch your
connections going in & out incase this thing phones-home or connects
without you knowing. Firewall. You shouldn't be using IE, it's easy
prey. Get the most recent version of the spyware-removal programs that
everyone talks about in this group and hope they work so you don't have
to do it manually, but if you do, try to boot from a known-good, clean
bootdisk before starting your work. The less things you let Windows run
the better, if you can do your research from a dos session off a clean
boot disk it's all the better. Also, I think there's a product from
FreshDevices called Fresh UI that shows info about processes and running
programs that is usefull to spot things that are running that
shouldn't be.
