    Removing Symantec products

I've got a friend that is trying to uninstall his Norton anti-virus (2k5 or 2k6, I believe) and he is having several problems. Obviously, he cannot uninstall the anti-virus until he gets rid of the other Symantec software as well. The only problem is that Symantec won't uninstall. He's tried it in Safe Mode, he's ended the running processes that relate to Symantec and he has just about run out of hope.

Is there any kind of program out there that can be quickly downloaded / used to get rid of Symantec? An auto uninstaller that does not go through the Control Panel?

    Thanks for your time.

Edit: He has also tried the uninstall instructions on the Symantec website and he's had no luck. (Sorry, I forgot to mention this part.)

It really does depend which version he is using so we do need to know EXACTLY what product and what version is being used. There are different instructions for different versions and the removal tool is only for the 2003 versions of Norton Anti-Virus and earlier. There are numerous cautions on the Symantec website about not using it on later versions or on other Norton or Symantec Security products.
If he still has the install disk often times it is just a matter of reinstalling it and then uninstalling. Has this been tried?
