    One reason for it through flow through the google site is so that you can
    see your search term highlighted in the returned page.
    IMHO, this should probably be implemented in javascript, but its
    possible they do it server side.

    The ONLY "pop up stopper" anyone ever needs is to set up their system (and
    especially their web browser) correctly. For the most part, this means
    *removing* (or disabling) things, not *adding* things.

    That only applies if, after getting the search results listing, you ask for
    the "cached copy" of a given patge. If instead, you click on the main link,
    your browser goes directly (presumably after a normal DNS lookup, of course)
    to that site/page -- Google is not involved st all (tho' their domain may
    still appear in the "Referer:" header of the HTTP request, of course).

    (This, of course, all presumes the use of just a standards-compliant
    web-browser, without such potential hijackers as the "Google Toolbar".)
