win32 BI App - in Add/Remove Programs
I have posted before when I found a new Transponder spyware variant
also creating a listing in the Add/Remove Programs of the Control
Panel. At that time if you went to uninstall it, the host.dll and all
its objects would be uninstalled without problem. Well, they now are
trying to offer free trials of Flash Talk and installing yet another
new Transponder variant (bi.dll) along with the Win32 BI Application
entry in the Add/Remove Programs which means if you happened to
install their first variant the host.dll and then the new one, you
would have two entries in the Add/Remove Programs but you would only
be able to uninstall one because they both call a file (payload.inf)
in the windows or winnt(windows 2000) \INF folder. the payload.inf
contains the code with the path and file names in which to uninstall
and as there can only be one payload.inf, only the last install of the
Transponder spyware will be removed leaving the other intact!
Ad Aware 6.181 from http://www.lavasoftsupport.com will detect both
variants and remove them, however, you will need to manually delete
the uninstall registy entry or entries of the Win32 BI Application so
it will no longer be listed in the Add/Remove Programs of Windows
Control Panel.
I have the full updated (as of 22 Sept. 2003)resolution at my website
at http://webhelper.netfirms.com/cleang...ayinstall.html
Also, if anyone really wants to try whatever Flash Talk is, please go
directly to their site at flashtalk.com to get it as it is only a
install executable without any of the Transponder Spyware.
