    Pest Patrol - f*cksite

    Hi,

Last tuesday I ran a scan of my system using Pest Patrol (paid for, full
version) after running Spybot S&D & AdAware. Spybot S&D & AdAware found
nothing but PestPatrol found a registry entry called F*CKSITE. I don't know
what this is because I can't find anything that mentions this anywhere and
PestPatrol's website is useless for this.

I deleted the entry and soon found out I shouldn't have. Upon reboot,
Windows Explorer and IE had reverted to an original default state and my
internet connection was gone. Even after reconfiguring IE and resetting the
settings for my ethernet card, still no connection.

As if this wasn't enough, I couldn't run my PestPatrol anymore.

To fix the problem, I had to revert to a recently backed up registry file.

Does anyone know what this F*CKSITE thing is? Any help would be apreciated.

I run an older system (P3 700) with win 98SE all patched and IE6.

    Thanks

I think MAYBE you hava a pest or trojan of some kind.

I did a search of F*CKSITE t for you and a program called Pest Control
    came up.
I read about it a bit, then downloaded an eval version. It's running on my
    computer, as I write.
So far it has found 546 pests and still scannng.

Go here and see humungus amount of "pests" that infect our computers :

    Hope this helps.

Had exactly the same thing (see my earlier post & the reply on this group)
but didn't get the additional problems you had (I'm running XP pro, maybe
that's why). It is a false positive caused by a bad update.

    This is the reply I had from Pestpatrol;

    Description:
Scan strings published yesterday may incorrectly identify this
    registry entry:

    HKEY_USERS\.default\software

as "F*ckSite". This is a FALSE ALARM. My apologies!

This false alarm is nothing to worry about. In fact, PestPatrol will
not be able to remove it because Windows will re-insert it into the
    registry.

The false alarm was inadvertently introduced on July 23, and was
removed from new scan strings published a few hours later. If, after
updating, you have any further problems, please write back.

Again, my apologies for this. If you are ever in doubt about whether
a detected pest is a false alarm or the real thing, please send me
your Session Log. Do this by clicking the E-Mail Log button on the
    Detected! Log tab -- see

Thanks Guys I apreciate it. When I went to the PestPatrol Site, I guess the
explanation hadn't been posted yet. It's a relief and I guess I have poor
    timing.

    Thanks Again

PestPatrol is blatant spamware, promoted and sold by a frothing loon:

That's not surprising that Pest Patrol finds more than Spybot and AdAware,
since Pest Patrol doesn't appear to be hampered by any desire to actually be
right about what it catches. :-/
