    eDonkey - legit or scam?

I was searching for a file on the web and came across a link to
it but it required eDonkey to retrieve it. I downloaded and
installed it (version 0.61 I think). Anyway, all it seemed to
do was install adware on my computer. When I tried to use it
it went through a process of trying to connect to various
servers only to never connect, not even after several hours.

I eDonkey legit? Is it a real P2P program or simply a trojan
designed to install ad-/spy-ware? It does seem suspicious
that the only copy of this particular file should be
accessible only through eDonkey. I suspect they might have
simply created a bunch of bogus filenames and fed them to
search engines as a trap to get people to install the program.

    Hello!
Don'n panic! Edonkey is - as emule- an real P2P program. When a file is
avaible in the Donkey/Mule network, you can download it only from there
with eDonkey or emule or another client accesing this network. you have
to let teh dokey connect to a server which tells you the IP's of people
who have the file. Then you download it from them

But it NEVER connects. I'll keep trying, but I'm only going to give
it a few more days before I nuke its ass off my computer. It has
also hijacked my browser, changing my home page and rechanging it
again every time I reset it. It really is an obnoxious program.

    Hi!
Have you REALLY downloades a CLEAN edonkey/emule? There can be malware
or a trojan which is hiding behind the eDonkey. Could you please post
    the links to:
    a) The Donkey Download site you used
    B) The site which tells you the edonkey link

Perhaps a Firewall bloks legitime server connections of edonkey

Does anyone else find it weird that so many P2P programs are supported by
selling ads? It certainly isn't intuitive to me that "people who are
stealing music and software" is a desirable target for advertising. Or are
the ads aimed at the tiny fraction of P2P users who aren't looking to pirate
    stuff?

I've had it. That piece of **** called eDonkey has been thoroughly
    nuked from my computer.

I used Ad-Aware, but the interface is clunky; the little boxes
you are supposed to check or uncheck don't work right. I tried
to uncheck Cydoor because I have the dummy version which came
with KazaaLite, but it went and removed it anyway because I
couldn't get the boxes to tick properly. So I reinstalled a
backup cd_clint.dll but it turned out to be the original so now
my KazaaLite has ads! (But it pales in comparison to the ****
    eDonkey did.)
