    More hosts questions

Just added a new hosts file, a reg tweak that added a list of sites to the
restricted zone, Kerio, AdShield, and set my cookies to blocked. I am
having problems with some web sites. One that is interesting is on some of
the forums. When I log into them and try to add a new message, it asks me
to log in again. This just goes in circles and I think it's because of one
(or a few) of the new protections added. Does anybody have experience with
this problem and how do I troubleshoot it?

I have seen this when cookies are blocked. Instead I set cookies to "ask"
and have the option for session-only cookies enabled (Mozilla feature).
So I enable cookies for only the sites I need and block everything else.
The sites that are enabled can only track me for that session.

The easiest way to check, is to move your HOSTS file to your desktop and
then create a 'dummy' HOSTS file in the proper place.
All you need to do is right click in the directory, go to 'New' and click
text document. Now just rename that file to HOSTS (make sure it doesnt have
a file extension) and then try to login to the site.

What HOSTS file? May be too restrictive...
Kerio likely has nothing to do with your issues.
What AdShield block list are you using?
What Reg tweak did you use and for what purpose?

Hi AceeDuecee - The usual cause of such login problems is that a cookie
isn't being allowed to be set. Try clicking on the privacy icon in the
status bar, then right click on the domain in question and allow cookies.
Then do a CNTL-Refresh, re-loggin and see it that fixes it.

A lot of wasted monkey motion there.

If you ever want to test the system without the influence of the HOSTS file,
just (temporarily) rename HOSTS to HOSTS.SAV, or HOSTS.TXT, HOSTS XXX, or
vitually any other name that strikes your fancy, and reboot -- done deal.
When you want to reactivated it, just name it back to HOSTS, and reboot
    again.
