    Hosts

I have just discovered the hosts file. I d/l what looks to be a pretty good
hosts file. The problem is that now my wife claims it blocks some of the
sites she uses. Is there a program or an easy way to turn the hosts file on
    and off?
As a side note - maybe I should ask her what sites she is frequenting.

Yes. Check on the freeware newsgroup for recent posts on this. You
could also create a simple batch file to rename hosts back and forth,
effectively toggling it on and off.

What site did you get the HOSTS file from? Siljaline's reference give a
    good minimal HOSTS file.
IE-SPYAD will add sites to the Restricted Zone and will permit them to be
displayed but not permit them to do any nasties.
    Updated today.

In case you didn't find it on the freeware n.g. here's a URL:

I have used Hosts Toggle and so have others including the author of this:
    http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Toggle corrupts the HOSTS file - at least it *can* and did in many circumstances.

Oh oh. Well, it wasn't a recommendation by me. Just something I saw
posted. I personally had/have no interest in it and didn't try it.

    Not a problem

Just thought I would post the FYI - wasn't pointed at you just the app.

You might want to look at hostess, which makes it easier to manage
the host file. ie. add/remove entries and also toggle it on and off.
