Keyloggers - does spybot/adaware/avg pick them up? Maybe dumb Q

I use spybot/adaware/avg and ZA Pro v. 3.1.395 regularly and all are kept up
to date. A few months back I had a problem with something logging keystrokes
and reporting home with my info. Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid but I havent
had any re-occurences. Do these programs detect the presence of keylogging
programs or should I try something different?

Not sure if Ad-aware does but SpyBot offers that level of protection.

How did you know your keystrokes were being monitored, what was the clue
that gave it away?
