    keystrokes being monitored?

Recently, when I enter keystrokes on my computer keyboard, there is a
new <delay> of up to ten to twelve stokes, where nothing
appears...then, all of a sudden, the entire word I typed appears at
once. This is not only annoying, but makes me wonder if my computer
is being "monitored". I have the latest antivirus stuff; is there any
way for me to uncover or uninstall this?
It only does this on one computer (Compaq), not my other one...
    Thanks,
    Mr. Prez

That is a symptom of an overloaded processor also, check the system
monitor. Hard to type that way, isn't it?

    Try defragmenting the hard drive.

And just to be on the safe side, download
and install Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Let both of them
download their latest patches and do a scan.

    (From the FAQ)
    Ad Aware:
    http://www.lavasoft.de/
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
    http://lavasoft3.element5.com
Three mirror sites from where you can download Ad-Aware, a spyware
eliminator. Lavasoft (makers of Ad Aware) forum:
    http://www.lavasoftsupport.com (requires registration)

    Spybot Search and Destroy:
    http://security.kolla.de/
    http://spybot.eon.net.au
    Spyware eliminator. SpyBot threats database:

Which would have *what*, exactly, to do with the symptom "Data64" reported?

This, at least, is decent advice.

Or better, download the updates separately then install them per best
practices using an installation-monitor utility like InCtrl or Total
Uninstall (I prefer the former, but YMMV).

Possible. But the more likely explanation is that your CPU is saturated.

    > I have the latest antivirus stuff;

    [snip]

And that is very probably part of the reason why, especially if you've
enabled all the auto-everything protect-me-from-myself "features", most
    which are usually unnecessary.

    "Uncover or uninstall" *what*, exactly?

Have you run a full system scan with AdAware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy?
That's SOP Step #1 in cases like this.
