    Question HijackThis Log for your perusal

    Hello everybody,

    Whilst browsing my favourite animal-based goat-in-pvc pornography sites, (joke!) I picked up some nasty bugs, which I have caught via AVG anti-virus, spybot s&d, and AdAware SE.

    MOST of the baddies were identified (java exploits, and trojan horses). However Internet explorer has been hijacked, and redirects my genuine searches to dodgey alternatives of the same nature without my consent. It seems Firefox is unafected, but I am worried enough to have stopped all my online shopping and stuff, until I know the extent of the threats I have contraced.

    All (much needed) advice greatly received.

    Kind Regards,

    Sierra Echo

    I see one trojan for sure still on the system. I would like for you to go here READ ME Before Posting A Request For Assistance!
    Please follow the instructions there for the re-location of your HiJackThis program. It MUST be run from it's OWN FOLDER>
    Follow ALL of the instructions there including the online scans, -re-running of YOUR own anti-virus scan, updating AdAwareSE and Spybot, and key...downloading, install, update and running of Ewido. Be sure to have all scans fix everything found.
    Pay close attention to the scans required to be run unconnected from the internet and in SAFE MODE. These steps begin in Step #8.
    Again, fix everything found in all of those scans and also save the Ewido log for posting here.

    Once you have completed those steps then reboot to Normal Mode and run HJT again(being absolutely CERTAIN that NO Browsers are open, No IM programs are open) and place Checkmarks next to the following entries if they are still present;

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmtvp.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmtvp.exe
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{39670F2E-0B92-46DC-B92E-10C55899051A}: NameServer = 85.255.116.147,85.255.112.6
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{4C088799-8E39-4290-AA74-FAFF06D10F52}: NameServer = 85.255.116.147,85.255.112.6
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{DD63141D-3001-4CEF-A13D-1A5AFB80D835}: NameServer = 85.255.116.147,85.255.112.6
    O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.147 85.255.112.6
    O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.116.147 85.255.112.6
    Once you have placed the checkmarks then click the FIX button.
    Exit HJT.
    Reboot and run a new HJT scan, save the log and post it here along with the Ewido scan log.

    Hey Judy,

    Just to butt in with a couple things:

    -- You should make sure Tea Timer is disabled so it doesn't get in the way of fixes . . . .

    -- Java is waaaay out of date and needs to be updated. Uninstall old version and run Atribune's ATF Cleaner which will flush the Java Cache (among other things).

    -- Sierra will need to run LonnyRJones' FixWareoout remove the baddie you noted in the HJT Log. There very likely will be other baddies similar to dmtvp.exe showing in the FixWareout log and all of them will need to be manually deleted.

    -- You guys may want to flush the DNS cache and definitely flush restore points after cleanup.

    Best Luck
    PP

    Thanks PP! Here is link for FixWareout.
    Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

    When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed.

    At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

    Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new Hijack This log.

    OK, I'm back.

    Following the advice from the READ ME, here is what I found:

    Step 4 - Please look in Add or Remove Programs (Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) for any suspicious items and note them for us in the event you need to post back for further assistance.

    "C-Media USB Mass Storage Driver"
    "MSXML4 Parser"
    Are the only 2 I am not familar with.

    Step 6 - No malicious software was detected by Microsoft's Sept 06 removal tool on full scan.

    Step 7 - Trend Micro's housecall especially, found lots, but on re-scans, always "Adware - Abetterinternet" re-occured.

    Step 8 - Not much was found in the safe mode scans, except EWIDO found a BT dialer.

    So I booted in normal mode, the 04 HJT item "dmtvp.exe" was not there, but the 017 IP redirects were, so I fixed those in HJT.

    So after all that, here is the final HJT scan - question is - am i safe?

    -- Sierra will need to run LonnyRJones' FixWareoout remove the baddie you noted in the HJT Log. There very likely will be other baddies similar to dmtvp.exe showing in the FixWareout log and all of them will need to be manually deleted.

    -- You guys may want to flush the DNS cache and definitely flush restore points after cleanup.

    All of the above still needs to be done in order to clean your computer.

    Sierra,
    You ABSOLUTELY must follow PP's instructions. Turn off Spybot Teatimer immediately.
    Honestly, I didn't realize that you had not run Fixwareout until I read PP's last post(he gets me out of scrapes all the time!) and then I looked more closely at your last HJT log. Where you had one O4 entry earlier, now you have these two;

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmtyh.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmtyh.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmnuh.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmnuh.exe

    Why didn't you run the Fixwareout as he noted and then I linked for you?
    This must absolutely must be completed.
    Please download FixWareout
    * Run Fixwareout.
    * Click Next,
    * then Install,
    * make sure Run fixit is checked
    * and click Finish.
    * The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
    * You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
    * Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

    When you run fixwareout, just follow the prompts, you will need to restart when prompted.

    After rebooting (restart) back into normal boot mode, make sure you have all web browsers closed.
    * Go into Control Panel -->Network Connections.
    * Right click on your connection
    * and click Properties.
    * On the Properties page, highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
    * Click Properties. This will bring up another page.
    * Select Obtain DNS Server Automatically.
    * Click the ok button. The page will close.
    * Press ok on the page in front of you.
    * Restart the computer.
    * Reconnect to the Internet using Internet Explorer.
    * Now come back here and attach the log from fixwareout. It is located at c:\fixwareout\report.txt

    Hi, I didn't run fixwareout becuase it seemed like some homemade program and I wanted to try the big-brand anti-spyware products first, which give me more confidence.

    Here are the latest logs:

    Follow EACH AND EVERY STEP that PP has listed. And FYI, many of those" big-brand anti-spyware" only do two things...charge you an arm and a leg and then rip you off with false positives and adding spyware of their own. If it is a good program, we recommend it...big or small. A good number of the fixes we use here all the time were created by small time folks with big time brains who just want to help folks and not rip them off. You don't need a fancy package to work well.
