    Yay Pop-Ups and virii

Well, I was stupid and desperate enough to try downloading an executable off of Limewire.

I thought I deleted whatever it as because the original symptoms haven't come back. The next day I get on my computer and have plenty of wonderful error messages, I'm getting pop-ups in Firefox and IE likes to open all by itself now, I installed Firefox Beta and get pop-ups in that too. So its 3 different browsers all teaming up against me. I look in my C: root and WINDOWS file and find a wonderful collection of new files. I delete them all, check my startup list and delete everything new and its containing folder. I'm doing good this far.

I go into safe mode and delete all the folders that weren't deleted. Then I run S&D, Ewido, Ad-Aware and Windows Malicious Software Remover.

All find and delete some files and I think I'm done. I get back into normal Windows and I still have some those pop-ups that I love and not a single suspicious process or error message. So I've turned to you lovely people to save me.

All steps were followed and HJT log is attached.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

First off, before you try anything else I want you to Update your AdAwareSE and be certain you are running the latest version which is version 1.06.r1.
I also want you to download the VX2 Removal Tool
for AdAwareSE Now PLEASE follow these instructions EXACTLY

Close Ad-Aware, if it is currently open.
    Download the VX2 Cleaner 2.0 Plug-in
follow prompts to install as a Plug-in to AdAwareSE.

Reboot the computer to Safe Mode

Open Ad-Aware and do a FULL SYSTEM SCAN. Have it clean everything found.

Next Run the VX2 Cleaner by clicking the Add-Ons button on the left side.

Click on the tool to highlight it and then press the Run Tool Button.

If you computer is infected with VX2, a dialog box with text such as “New VX2 variant found” or “VX2 variant 1 found” will appear.
Press "Clean" and a dialog box with text “The first phase completed. Please reboot and perform a Smart Scan" will appear. After saving your work, reboot your system manually.
Repeat this until the VX2 Cleaner reports "System clean". Press "Close” to exit.
Run Ad-Aware one more time and scan your computer to make sure VX2 has been found and removed.
Reboot to normal mode and run a new HJT scan and post the log here.

It didnt give me an option to clean, it just said it placed a log in c:/vx2log.txt. All the log said was this:

    Code:
    Posssible new VX2 variant file:
     C:\WINDOWS\system32\jt6207joe.dll
And while I was typing this I got a popup in Firefox... So its obviously not cleaned.

Did you run AdAware and the VX2 tool in safe mode as instructed? Try running it again in NORMAL mode with All Browsers Closed.
Run AdAware itself first and then follow immediately with the VX2 cleaner.

Yes, I did them both in safe mode. It found something called Look2Me and said it would try to delete on never ran at startup.

When it says it will delete something at start up this does not necessarily mean you will see the program run at start, the process should be deleted but you may not see the program itself run. Run HJT again and give us the new log.

Well I have something called Look2Me which isn't getting deleted.

I tried using some L2M Removers but none worked.

    Here's the new HJT log.

Can you please either copy/paste your HJT log from a text file or attach it as a text file. Posted like you have are very difficult to read.
Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer to your desktop.

Before continuing with the fix there is something you must do:
    • Click Start -> Run and type in: services.msc
    • Check that the following services are running and that their startup is set to automatic:
    • Seclogon, or Secondary logon service
    • Next your machine needs to be offline, manually disconnect the network cable if necessary.
    • Your antivirus, and every other security software MUST be disabled.
    Now continue:
    • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
    • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
    • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
    • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
    • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
    • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Your computer will then shutdown.
    • Turn your computer back on.
    • Re-launch your Anti-virus/Firewall protection.
    • Re-connect back to the internet.
    • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a fresh HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.
