    KAV special data bases

Users of Kaspersky antivirus may not know that special data bases are
available. They can be downloaded manually from here:

    ftp://ftp.avp.ru/utils/special_bases/x-files/

If your're not familiar with manual updating it's a bit tricky. You
have to know KAV's scheme and do things in a certain sequence bcause
it relies on the avp.set file. To make it easier, I long ago created a
updater program which I just now had to modify for the latest new
series of special bases. I've made it available for download from my
web site. It's down at the bottom of my main page.

There are now four special bases named:
    advware.avc
    pornware.avc
    riskware.avc
    x-files.avc

So, you get the idea and the connection here with this newsgroup
I've not tested or compared detection to Spybot or AdAware or any
other products. I have no idea really what all "fringe area code"
these extra bases cover in the way of detection. I know some porn
dialers are detected. I suspect many controversial "malwares" are
detected, and I suspect that KAV will find some stuff that spyware
scanners do not (and vice versa).

BTW, I have no financial interest in or connection with Kaspersky
whatsoever. I've simply been using the DOS version of their av scanner
for many years, along with F-Prot for DOS.

Take a look at the txt files that accompany them. I'm not familar enough
with the other categories to comment, but the advware files are lacking
    compared to spybot.
