Re: Protecting Americans or Bushies Regime ?

    'Twas Fri, 15 Aug 2003 16:43:15 -0400 when all alt.privacy.spyware stood
in awe as "Thane@Cawdor.Net" <Me@nospam.com> uttered:

    >Yeah, if he don't win it he'll steal it like last time...Or use
    >terrorism as an excuse to declare martial law and "postpone" the
    >election.

Every government is subject to the will of the people. Even Louis XVI was
subject to the will of the people. If you can fool some of the people all
of the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, then you
can fool enough of the people enough of the time, but there are limits.
For over 200 years the USA has had Congressional elections every two years
and presidential elections every four years. Those elections have been
held on the day after the first Monday in November for about 180 years.
Even in 1862 and 1864 and 1942 and 1944, the elections were held.

You can assassinate a president (Kennedy), you can assassinate a candidate
(Kennedy), you can rig an election (Kennedy), but those can be
rationalized and covered up. There is no plausibly deniability in
postponing an election. It will cause too many people to doubt the
    legitimacy of the government.
