    Confused about "drive-by installs"

Can someone explain to me exactly what a "drive-by install" is?

I've seen plenty of mentions of it in different locations but I've just not
gotten the explanations given for how it takes place.

I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could break it down for me - thanks!

A "drive-by install" is the installation of an application onto your
system, usually by a website, that doesn't inform you that the
application is being installed or confirm that you want to install the
application through a dialogue box or other confirmation mechanism.
It's a sneaky, detestable tactic used to install monitoring, tracking
or advertising software onto the computers of unsuspecting surfers.
