    RPCRTA.DLL need help

    thanks for the response
I don't have internet on that machine, it is my grandson's.

the exact error is "crypt32.dll is linked to missing export file RCPTA.DLL:NDRClientCall2"

due to this error popping up each time, I can't extract anything from floppy or HD
I can't extract from the HD if it requires unzipping
when I atttempt to extract, it gives me the message and I can bypass it by clicking ok and it will open windows where I can utilize Works, etc that are already on the machine.
I know he (grandson) was deleting things to clear space for a game and deleted the 'shared programs' that I have been trying to rebuild the .dll s from my XP machine.
    ?????

Chris2, are you absolutely certain the name of this file is RCPTA.DLL?
I can find no reference to this .dll file anywhere BUT RPCRT4.DLL IS a legitimate file. rpcrt4.dll is the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) API, used by Windows applications for network and Internet communication.

What is the operating system on the affected machine?

    Lightbulb

Hmmm, it sounds like your grandson gave you your birthday gift a little too early this year!

From your last sentence, I believe you are using Windows XP. If so, is it Professional?

Are you able to run .exe files? IF you attached the self-extracting version of HijackThis to this thread, would you be able to download/save and run it?
Further more if this is an XP machine, can you do this to see if it found and replenished possibly deleted system files:
START > RUN > scf /scannow > OK (XP CD might be needed and also there is a space between sfc and /scannow).

Sorry, I can't seem to be able to attach .exe files, may be due to my 'Junior Member' status, may be Jholland could do it?
