I think you mean it won't. Won't mess up the settings, the
preferences, bookmarks in mozilla and IE are kept in seperate appdata
    folders.

Well, and the excellent popupblocker doesn't hurt too.
It has good has most commerical popupblockers, better then some.

Nope...I didn't mean that! It most definitely affected my use of IE,
since I have not opened it since starting to use Mozilla. ;-)

    I like good ol' Webwasher.

It's an outstanding proxy filter. I have Proxomitron, but it's not quite at the
    level this one is.

Hi everyone, and thanks to the person in net.integration who told me
    about this group.

I have discarded The Proxomitron, because it has to be run fulltime
while online, and they don't bother to tell you until after you have
installed it - grrr! I never run ad blockers fulltime, as some web
pages won't load properly, and I may think a page is dead, just
because the ad blocker prevents it from displaying, even with Ctrl
held down. That is why I need to be in control of when I will use the
blocker and when I will not.

I like Pop-up Stopper Professional, as it blocks popups, preserves the
few good cookies I want (and their counterparts in Temporary Internet
Files, so they still work) and cleans out the rest, and cleans out the
index.dat files all in one go. But it's shareware. I could keep doing
the same thing by running Empty Temp Folders, Ad-aware and Spybot,
though I don't know how to clean index.dat files manually.

So does anyone have ideas on a similar product that is freeware? I
don't see why I should pay quite a high price (in A$) when I could do
    it all for free.

***Right click the Proxomitron icon in the system tray, and select
"bypass." It's a toggle -- do the same when you want it back on.***

Alternatively, you can add sites to the bypass filter list.

The Proxomitron is more accurately described as a web proxy, not *just* an
ad blocker, and a proxy is going to run full time.

Proxomitron isn't the simplest app to use, but if you give it another go I
think you might be very pleased with everything it can do, especially if
you want complete control over your HTTP connections. With custom filters,
    the possibilities are basically endless.

I believe some browsers have pop-up blocking built in, so you could get one
of those browsers. Also, since most browser spyware requires IE, as a side
effect of changing browsers, you'd have a more secure system.

Check out NoAds at http://www.southbaypc.com/NoAds/. Very simple and

    Mark,

I strongly to you the following browsers. They have BUILT-IN pop-up,
    cookie and ad control.

    http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fire...ase-notes.html
    http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

If you are a Internet Explorer user, I strongly suggest you do not use
that browser because of privacy and security issues.
