    Blue screen of death

ok so basically as the title says i keep getting a blue screen of death, it seems random but tends to happen when i have just logged in around the 2 minute period. However sometimes it does just seem random. In the rare times that is works it can run for several days before it crashes again and it can then take my another few days to get it up and running again.

I think its a software problem as it runs fine in safe mode, I have tried several times to do a system restore and still to no avail. I have also conducted several virus scans and nothing has been picked up. The blue screen displays no error message just the usual numbers after **stop. There is also no dumping of physical memory, when the blue screen comes up it says dumping is alreayd complete.

I am a student so my computer is very important to my work so I would really appreciate any help you could give me.

    Thanks a lot guys

Can you give us the full set of numbers given after the stop. This should give us a clue as to what is happening.

If you are running XP Examine the “System” and “Application” logs in Event Viewer for other recent errors that might give further clues. To do this, launch EventVwr.msc from a Run box; or open “Administrative Tools” in the Control Panel then launch Event Viewer.
See if anything shows up there.

Quite often this error number 0x0000008e signifies a hardware compatiblilty issue. Have you installed any new hardware OR updated any drivers lately?

i havnt installed any hardware or drivers to my knowledge but event viewer has showed a couple of things:
i got some of these. Faulting application set7aa.tmp, version 7.1.100.1248, faulting module , version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. under "application".

    and this Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 aaf1c928, parameter3 a7d8ba20, parameter4 00000000. under "system"

How about seeing if you can run through the steps PP gives here READ ME Before Posting A Request For Assistance! and see what, if anything, shows up. If any of the scans find something, have it fix but be sure to note where the problem is located. Once you have completed all the steps then run and post a HiJackThis log for us.

Sorry about that. Link is corrected now

Solution to my problem and hopefully yours

When I got this, it was after I hooked a new Network cable from my computer's Ethernet slot to my Xbox to play Xbox Connect (Free version of XBL) running off of my computer's Internet.

I then got the "blue screen of death" because of my Xbox configuring against the computer. It worked after a proper reboot, re-installation of program, and then I opened up my port.

But, you don't have any new hardware installed, or software. Like a game, application off of the Internet?

If so, go to that link, download a AV program, and run it. Get an anti-spyware program, too.

Run it all, update your computer. Reboot.
Also, check all of your hardware's drivers. Make sure they are up to date.

    -Joseph

Joseph, he is running the anti-virus program Avast. He is also running Ewido anti-spy program and the Zone Alarm firewall.
You advice about drivers is "right on"
I am still looking through his log.
