Does anybody know whether the user can avoid getting infected by using
(say) Trillian to connect to ICQ, rather than ICQ's own chat client?

Hi Lance,
Why bother "chatting" if it's all in the URLI hope that info was
self-explanatory. If I could answer Robin here too, I don't know of trouble-free
chat clients, I would stay way but ICQ is thee most offensive...

I have been using Trillian (with ICQ) for more than a year now. Although
most of my contacts are on MSN and Yahoo, I do have some ICQ folks on
there. Have not seen any spyware. However, I will be giving up Trillian
once Miranda(http://sourceforge.net/projects/miranda-icq/) gets a but more
stable.
