    I did as you said and here is the new log file. Just a note that the dll you told me to delete was for my advanced browser integration for internet download manager which I have had for years. I don't believe that is any problem because I removed it with lspfix and IDM told me that the program had removed the browser integration which is crucial for the program to operate so I let IDM reinstall it.

    Sorry, 99% of the time listings such as these;
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll
    O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\idmmbc.dll

    corresponds to Winsock Hijackers or otherwise known as LSP (Layered Service Provider).
    LSPs are a way to chain a piece of software to your Winsock 2 implementation on your computer. Since the LSPs are chained together, when Winsock is used, the data is also transported through each of the LSPs in the chain. Spyware and Hijackers can use LSPs to see all traffic being transported over your Internet connection.

    Generally we are told they should always be removed but if you say it is necessary for the running of this program then I guess that is ok. How are you connected to the internet?

    I'm connected through an ethernet jack in the wall which goes to a central hub. It is supposedly a T1 connection, but the speed is hardly that. Shentel is the provider of sed connection.

    I will be honest here, the only thing I see in the log I found suspect were those O10 listings.
    There are numerous Toshiba programs and files running which are listed as User's choice in all the information I have been able to find but I would hesitate to tell you to turn them off unless you choose to do so since I truly am not familiar with laptops. Perhaps there is somebody else here who would be able to help you.
    Is this always slow even when not connected to the internet? Has it always been slow since the beginning?
