    Office File|Open Window does not show date or file type

    Hi,
    I have been using Windows Office 2003 for 18 months. In the last few days, I cannot see file information about date and file type when I use the "detail" view in the File|Open command. This problem affects Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

    When I use Accessories|Windows Explorer, I do see this information, so I suspect it is limited to Office. I do not know how to frame the question for Office Help, either in the programs or online.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Craig

    I don't use Office 2003 but do use Office 2000. In that program I don't have to actually open the file, but place my cursor directly over the file and get the data info you are talking about. Are you able to do this?
    You should also be able to open the Folder holding the document or excel item and highlight the item. Then go up to File on the Folder. Click File, Properties and you should be able to get the data you are looking for...see my attachments;

    Thanks for your quick reply.

    I have fairly elaborate file structures, so I use the date and file type as as means to quickly sort files to find the one I want. Your techniques are useful, but not "mass" enough.

    As it happens, the date and file type columns seemed to have turned themselves back on. I don't know what I did -- karma, maybe?

    What I *did* do was have the Word program opened. Then I used Windows Explorer to find a particular file. When I went to save my revisions via Word, the date and file type columns were there. Amazing.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.
