so my notebook came in yesterday...
and it's a beast!!!

the PCI-E slot doubles as a storage slot for the media center remote (IR)
the IR receiver is on the front of the unit along with the WiFi switch and headphone/mic ports (it has dual headphone out for sharing in say an airplane)

and something i was worried about: the charger
most 17" power hosues come with a brick like power converter well this one is very light and or normal size:
i found that the keyboard is very nice because it is a 17 notebook the keys are normal size... not shrunk like other unit's
although the way they placed the arrow keys then had to shorten the shift..
i tend to hit up arrow alot more then i hit shift
some of the normal keys are now on "FN" such as the print screen pause break and sys rq
right above the keyboard is a very neet touch bar thats controls your media (next/back play/pause stop valume and mute) it also has a dvd and hp's "quick play" software hot keys, im yet to see if they are programmable
the altec lansings are typical of most notebooks with poor bass , but overall they sound very clear and have some nice volume
and now for a bit more technical part of the insides!!
when i went to remove the keyboard i found i had to remove the battery and take out 6 screws holding the header panel on and one more screw that was just hiding on the bottom to help secure the massive 101/102 key board in place
while i was poking around under the screen i noticed that the hinge is MUCH larger then any other notbook including other 17's i hope that that means it'll last a very long time
and you can tighten the screws!

note that there is 2 HDD bays but if you order one hdd you don't get the cage for a second hdd
and it's required for installation
they sent my unit out with a Western digital scorpio... a better hdd imho
something i like about this unit is that when you take off the ram cover you
can see/change your clock battery.. very nice (might be handy)
over all it's about 7.5 lbs loaded (not including charger)
not the lightest but I'm a big guy and 7 lbs is nothing
very vibrant screen but not too colorfully
and the brightness is ncie and even
if you let it sit idle you'll expect to see about 3 hours untill it shuts down loaded playing dvd i only got 2.5 (so you cant watch titanic on one charge)
it's very quiet thanks to the one LARGE 60 (ish) mm fan and the low heat centrino duo (base on the core 2 duo)
and for those who want to know this unis scores as following (vista BSR)

hard disk 4.9
this is a newer GPU so i expect it to be faster with new drivers (it went from 3.0 to 3.4 with the last driver update
