    Startup freezing

Hi, I have windows XP and everything was running smoothly until I cut a folder of pictures moved them into another folder and my PC froze, 2 popups came up saying something about explorer becoming unstable and needing to be closed as did drwatson. I clicked okay on both but nothing happened. The computer wasnt frozen but the 2 explorer windows were stuck open. I ctrl+alt+del'd and ended the explorer.exe process which was running at 100% of the CPU.
The computer then completely froze so i reset it.
As BIOS started it took ages on Memory checking but did eventually do it. But now it freezes on Windows XP loadup screen.
Turning the PC off entirely and at the mains has done nothing to help.
Anything obvious that could cause this? or anything i can do to try and find out what did it?
    Cheers for any help.
    Tom

Sounds to me like it was more than pictures moved to another folder especially with the BIOS start up difficulty. Are you absolutely certain that it was only pictures? Were these personal pictures or were these downloaded pictures? Were these "still" pictures or videos? Were these pictures being held within some program or were they just sitting there in a folder all by themselves? What I mean is, if these pictures were sitting in a folder as .jpgs or .bmps or .tiffs with no actual tie in to a specific program then they could actually be accessed by virtually ANY photo program but if they were held as part of a specific program then moving them before saving them to a file of their very own could do some damage to the program which was holding them.
We really need some more info here...was this a simple drag and drop procedure from one file to another?
Have you tried a System Restore back to sometime BEFORE you moved these pictures?

On top of what judy said, have you tried booting into safe mode? It sounds like you could have a possible memory issue.
