everything on my screen is too wide!

I just installed XP Pro. on my laptop, which has a wide screen. Now, everything on the screen is wider than it should be. I tried re setting the screen resolution but that doesn't fix the problem.( that slider won't slide either. It goes from one extreme to the other!) It makes everything look just too weird.
Also, when I scroll, it goes in waves, and I can't stop that either.
None of this happened until the xp pro install.

what system chipset and video chipset do you have in that lappy? You may have to go to the manufacturer's site to get the drivers.. IE: Intel, ATI, nVidia, etc..
