    Msconfig

Having lots of probs with msconfig as follows:

Currently when I activate PC my system configuration utily screen is appearing which is not normal. Apart from that the system.ini / win.ini sections are showing absolutely nothing.
In the process of trying to analyse what could possibly be wrong I inadvertently unclicked one of the options in Selective Startup which as it turns out has turned off my system restore. T/4 unable to restore to a previous point.
To best of my knowledge whenever any changes are made in msconfig and you restart PC usually a screen appears asking whether to show this message or change the system configuration utiliy when windows start. This message is no longer appearing.
Can anyone offer some advise what is possibly the cause and a maybe a solution to get things back on track.

    Thanks

Thanks for the information. Another question, when you say "when I activate PC my system configuration utily screen is appearing" Do you mean "msconfig" is automatically loading after windows loads?

I couldn't find anything regarding msconfig starting up automatically.. It could be a general windows setting such as "open last folder at boot"

Try going into msconfig, changing a setting in MSconfig/startup, such as AIM or your graphics card control panel/system tray thing. So that it doesn't load at startup, then select OK. Remember which box you unchecked, so that you can put it back after restarting...

When msconfig says you must restart, do not click on restart, instead; click on NO or cancel?

Close the msconfig window, then go to the start menu and restart the computer.. This might stop msconfig from automatically loading at startup.

If it does, you can go back into msconfig, recheck the startup item, and do the same steps for closing msconfig as mentioned above, do not click on the "restart" buton etc...

Also, if you are worried about a virus, or malware that may have started all of this, you might want to vissit the spyware/malware help section.

OK, that is the MSconfig program. Try what I mentioned in post #5 changing something in your startup, except instead of clicking "OK" click on "Apply", then "OK" Your computer will ask to restart, select NO, then go to the start menu and select restart from the start menu.

When you reboot there may be a "you are using selective startup" box that pups up; you can ignore it for now, just close it, re-open msconfig and re-select the application that you unchecked from the startup menu. "apply" "ok" and don't restart then restart your computer from the start menu.. Then when you restart and if the Msconfig window doesn't pop up, but you get the selective startup message, select the box for "do not show this message again"

Hey Cauz, if he never wanted to make any changes in msconfig but somehow did and msconfig started showing up as 'Selective Startup', should he try selecting the 'Normal Startup' to see if it resolves the problem?

    Msconfig

    Hi

    Thanks but no joy

Carried out what was suggested in post #5 but made no difference. I just remembered having saved at one time the message to which you are referring at the end of your thread which I am attaching. THis message is not at any stage coming up.
