    Monitor question

I just got a new Acer LCD monitor, finally getting rid of my big (but sharp) Viewsonic CRT. The User Manual is scanty, to say the least, and I can't find anywhere whether the monitor should be set for 75MHz or 60MHz. What are the pros and cons of each?

Also, I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the clarity of this monitor, and may go looking for one that's sharper. Any suggestions?

If it will do either, I'd go with the 75hz. Some people like myself are sensitive to 30/60/90hz cycling. I get eye strain and sea-sick when using 60hz when gaming or video with LCD monitors, and doing ANYTHING on a CRT. However at 70, 72, 85hz - I'm perfectly fine.

Pro for 75hz = no sea-sickness, less blur
Con for 75hz = lesser resolutions available, works the monitor harder than 60hz(shorter life)

LCD have larger pixels, so your imagine quality will be lesser than a CRT. My old V1100 Compaq 21" CRT had .22mm pixel size versus my new Samsung 22" 226BW widescreen LCD has .28mm or so.. Smaller pixels = sharper pictures.

What Acer did you get? I recently got a 19" widescreen from them, and it's 100x sharper than my old 17" LCD from Hyvision. You just have to be sure to use the native resolution of the monitor, otherwise you will get really blurry/not pretty output from the monitor.

knight0334, thanks for your reply about the 75Hz vs 60Hz. What are the pros and cons of 60Hz? I didn't realize the pixel size was larger. How odd that they can't make it smaller and increase the sharpness. I haven't been able to find pixel size mentioned anywhere when researching LCD flatpanel monitors.

    Gizmokid2005, it's an Acer X191XD , not widescreen. I am using the native resolution, which is 1280 x 1024.

60Hz is the same frequency of electricity and the borderline of normal vision. At 60Hz some people can see flickering in a monitor (I notice it a lot) and therefore turn it up. Theoretcially 60Hz will allow the monitor to last longer unless it's designed for a higher frequency.

I'm assuming you meant a X191SD, as I can't find the XD anywhere. Most LCD monitors have a native frequency of 75Hz, at least every one I've run into as been at least 72Hz.

If you are still experiencing fuzzy pictures, try using the auto-adjust feature on the monitor itself. That has corrected almost all of my issues on my Acer LCDs.

You're right, it's an X191SD. I've done autoadjust several times, but movies still seem to be fuzzy.

Hmmm...is it just movies that are fuzzy, or is it everything?
