Crucial Tech said on the phone that several HP Pavilion users had trouble with that particular item, so they replaced them promptly and my computer now recognizes that my memory has doubled.
Unfortunately, the performance is still not what I was hoping for. My CPU usage is still spiking up to 100% frequently, particularly when I am running Internet Explorer with anything else. Firefox has similar results. I am running Verizon's anti-virus and anti-spyware package and I know that uses up some memory, but I still think something is not right.
Any ideas?
