    Windows XP boot/load problem...

First off...hello from again from...who knows how many years ago I posted on forumoc ;x ...

Anywho, I've been away for 2 yrs serving a mission for my church, and I return home to a broken comp (little brother used it.../sigh)

When windows starts up, it comes to the user logon screen and when I try to logon it loads (sort of) , initializes it what I should say "Logging on, reading user account , etc" then it immediately says "logging off..." and returns me to the user logon screen...

When I try to boot from CD (tryin to reinstall xp), it doesnt want to boot from it ... D: , I thought that was pretty awkward...

    Any ideas?

edit - Btw when I try Safe mode or Last known good config reboot...no good either, still does the same thing
and btw this is xp sp2 OS

Your Os boot issue is a corrupt registry (userinit.exe) doesn't/ can't complete loading the registry so which mode you boot in this would still be a problem hence you are still having the problem in Safe Mode. LKGC is only worth trying if the boot problem occured after a device driver installation which this is not.

Your CD being scratched up would most certainly related to the boot-install problems you are facing. Even if it did installed, chances are you might face post installation issues. If you have your XP serial, just get a copy of the same version of Windows (Pro or Home Edition) from someone else and then use your own serial to complete the activation.

PS. Trying a tool like CD Scratch Doctor might make the CD readable again.

You could swing by a gamecrazy, or used game store, like game stop? they usually have a comercial buffing machine to remove the scratches from the clear plastic side/s of CD/DVD's, for a small fee, they could resurface and polish your disc. If the top foil is scratched where you can see pinhole's of light through the other side, like if you poked a hole in a piece of paper, data is gonzo....

Thanks for the advice. Looks like the problem was compounded with my cd-rw drive goin on the fritz. After I switched out for another drive, it worked. Socom dropped by and let me borrow his winxp disc and I was able to successfully reinstall winxp.

Alls well I guess, except everything that I need to reinstall now >.>;.
