    Safe Mode (not!)

I've been trying to boot up into safe mode, but I can't. I do not know if it is virus related. What shoul I do? AND I want to run virus scanning and deletion programs in safe mode. Is this safe?

Hi, you will need to provide more detail on this issue!

What happens exactly when you boot in Safe Mode? How far do you get?
any errors? Does the system freeze or just gets stuck at a certain point or reboots automatically?
System file (including registry) or a serious malware infection/ post infection collateral due to improper cleanup are the most common causes of this problem.

Do you recall anything out of the ordinary happening to this system before this problem started? Any prior infections or other system issues? Have you done any modification yourself?

    Safe Mode (not!)

    TurcoLoco

What happens exactly when you boot in Safe Mode? The computer loads all the neccessary drivers etc. then stops. After about a 1 min. or so the computer then restarts. If I let it go through with the rest of the boot process (Start Windows Normally) the computer loads up Windows normally.

How far do you get?The computer loads all the neccessary drivers etc. then stops.

    Any errors?
Then an error comes up about a certain "svchost.exe" not able to be loaded/started. I can't remember what the rest of the message contains.

Does the system freeze or just gets stuck at a certain point or reboots automatically?
    No.

The problem may come from that cause.

Just that the computer contracted some sort of virus, I do not know how severe/level of the virus.

I have done some modification in the past, but tried to reverse them to try and figure out what is going on.

I have also encountered (you may have seen from my other thread) one file folder in which there are a bunch of files each of which are critical to me personally (not to the computer) and I cannot access them. A message comes up that says I do not have permission to even view the file let alone try and use it. More on that later with the right questions.

So the system boots up all to way to the desktop just fine but about a minute later it reboots?
If it is hw related, then the biggest suspect would be PSU but you did hinted that you had some previous/recent malicious infection and the symptoms you mentioned somewhat fit the description of the old sasser/blaster type infections.

Have you already gone through PhilliePhan's sticky in the Spyware/HijackThis section? If not, I'd advise you to do so...and Jholland should follow up on this if needed.

Where is the exact location of this folder? Can you copy/move the folder elsewhere? Were these documents created under the same user you are logged in as?

If the above fails, just for giggles, can you access/copy the files thru command line?

    Safe Mode (huh?)

I'm sory if wasn't clear, but there is a misunderstanding. Yes the computer boots into os fine, but to take care of other possible problems I CANNOT boot into "safe mode." I can only go so far as to load the drivers for safe mode operation then the computer stops for about a minute and restarts/reboots.

I HAVE parsed a hjt log and I went over it in detail for any malicious lines, and found nothing too harmful. I figure that I could probably fix the problem if I could only run anti-virus software in safe mode. Just can't get theya frum heya.

My most sincere answer to your problem would be to backup all data you need to then do a fresh install. You could probably try doing the Repair-install first to see if it resolved the problem but it may not since it is not a sure-fire thing.
Anyhow, Repair-install mode would make sense to try first since it only re-installs the windows folder, nothing else should be touched. So your programs would naturally require a re-install along with hardware drivers but all your personal data/settings would stay intact.

If that doesn't help, your next logical step is a fresh install. I personally don't use repair install, not worth taking the chance. Fresh install is sure-fire and since you can boot in Normal mode to back up your data (also have your the latest drivers for your hardware) why bother with the iffy repair install....anyhow, my $0.02's worth!

    Good Luck!

Please don't parse the HJT log yourself, especially if you are using the one here. See this thread:
