New LCD monitor thinks its a CRT

I just bought a 19" widescreen monitor, native resolution 1440 X900, 75 Hz. I plugged it in, booted up, and it's not filling the screen. Display properties still show 1024X768 and there's no place to change to a WXGA+ monitor. The "user manual" refers me to control buttons to fix resolution, but y'know, they must be in hiding, because I've searched this monitor all over and can't find it.

I'm also curious if this problem could be compounded because they supplied an analog cable and not a digital cable. Am I right in assuming the picture will be clearer and sharper using a digital connection?

Give us the brand and model of the new monitor. Maybe we can find out "where" these control buttons are located. Isn't there a "map" in the manual of where you can find these buttons. Most manuals do include a picture "someplace" of where to locate various buttons and connectors.

If your LCD has a digital connection, you'll need a graphics card that has a DVI-I or DVI-D connector to take advantage of it. You'll also need a DVI cable (many LCD monitors come with only an analog cable). DVI-D refers to a digital-only connection, and DVI-I means that the connector can carry either digital or analog signals.
So you also need to be certain you have the correct graphcs card also in order to be able to use a digital cable.
You need a connector that looks similar to my attached Digital(DVI) connector to be sure you can use a digital cable.
If all you have on the computer is one which looks like my Analog(VGA) connector attachment then you cannot use a digital cable.

With what judy said, in the graphics control panel, you should have an option to put the resolution up to 1440x900 IF your graphics card is up to date and supports a higher resolution than 1024x768. If you could give us the model/brand/chipset that your graphics card is also.
