It should also give you opportunity to read from the hard drive if a copy of OS is on separate partition.
That may be a bit drastic at this point - Things could be repaired.
Plus, unneeded startups can be controlled, so no big worry there.
Once you save what you need to save, you can get your computer guy friend to help you reinstall Windows (if it comes to that).
What you need to worry about first is getting a legitimate copy of Windows either from Best Buy, microsoft, or or your compy (if there). Frankly, if the store you bought your machine from did not give you a disk, I would go back and demand that they do so - when you bought your machine, you PAID for a copy of windows that is licensed to you.
Worst case, if you still have your Windows OS Key, you can call Microsoft and, if your key is valid, they can probably set you up with a new copy at a modest cost.
