    I think the IE log is simply too long to post? It keeps coming up blank?

    Not sure what you mean by an IE Log...
    If you are the only user then you obviously don't need the other one. If YOU are the adminstrator then log on as the Administrator. Problem with starting in the last good configuration is that none of the updates will be applied. Some updates DO take a long time during the reboot. How long are you allowing it to wait?

    well the computer just counts down to 30 seconds and it blinks and then just keeps restarting but then eventually it starts but it gives me that IE message about missing a file or error etc. I'll try and restart again but it's very long...

    Ok, looked back through this thread;
    You say this;
    "The file 'iexplore.exe.000' on Windows NT Service Park Uninstall directory is needed - Copy Files From C:\\WINDOWS\ie7 - then there is an empty folder called Spuninst.
    Where is this empty folder?
    The default location for this folder usually is;
    c:\windows\$ntuninstallq817606$\spuninst\spuninst. exe
    NOT in
    C:\\WINDOWS\ie7.
    Have you looked in this file to see if the INSTALL file is there?

    I honestly think the problem began when you wouldn't allow the computer to completely start up but began Starting in last known good configuration" because this stops the install of the program update. Now the problem comes with the fact that you cannot update Windows because you have a damaged IE and that has to be in good working order in order to get these updates...even if you have them set to auto-update...the updates go THROUGH Internet Explorer even if you don't use it.

    I also ask again, What is the IE log? I have no idea what that is. If it is another HiJackThis log, please do NOT double space it, it is almost impossible to read AND this might make it too long to post here too.

    IE is definitely damaged and I think I am running 6.0. the IE log is something that comes up when you follow some repair guidelines for internet explorer... It's a very long log. As for the c:\windows\$ntuninstallq817606$\spuninst\spuninst. exe I can't find this folder at all? I did search for spunnist.exe and it showed up but not with a $ntuninstallq817606$ folder, it showed up in other folders... I wish I knew more about this stuff I am clueless and trying to figure it all out gives me a headache! I need to fix IE. Can I email you the IE log so you can see it?

    maybe I am simply not turning off all the antispyware programs when I am trying to install IE7? How do I turn them off? Could it be that simple?

    Can you put it in a zip file and attach it? But frankly, have never seen an IE log so don't know if I would know what to look for, but if you can zip and attach it maybe one of the other guys can take a look and actually know what they are looking at...

    To repair or reinstall Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP, complete the following procedure while you are logged on as an administrator:
    1. Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer:
    a. Click Start, and then click Run.
    b. In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.

    Note that you may be prompted for the Windows XP or Windows XP Service Pack 1 installation media.
    2. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, skip the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.
    3. Complete an in-place upgrade of Windows XP, a repair of Windows XP, or reinstall Windows XP.
