Amazing storm cloud we had overhead while on vacation last week. Have never seen a cloud like this one before.
Second photo shows water spout over the Atlantic generated by this storm.

Yeah, atleast if you see anymore storms like that one, even without the waterspout, find something below ground level and HARD to hide in, incase a tornado forms, you will have somewhere to hide that is protected from flying stuff, a.k.a. Projectiles... A tornado can drive a 2x4 through a house, brick wall, telephone pole, even a small wheat stalk can go through a tree trunk due to the velocity and air pressure, Kinda like the straw through a potato trick.. If you are below the flight path of the flying stuff, like in a ditch, or culvert, the flying stuff is less likely to hit you. A covered shelter/basement will help protect against other things like baseball+ size hail. Very nice picture by the way.. Chasers spend alot of their time trying to find clear view's of that side of the storm.

current radar shows significant cells offshore in that area from hilton head island to wilmington. Hope there's no boats in their paths.

Cellar and basements aren't typically the same thing here.
A cellar is located near the house, but not typically under the house accessable from inside the house.
A basement is just the floor below the first.
Some house have one or the other, some have both, some have neither.

I prefer the safe room. 12" of reinforced high strenght concrete with a vault door.

These photos were taken around July 12. Yes, that was a water spout out there, we watched it quite awhile. There was a small fishing fleet out there at the time, they just rode it out. Water spout was quite a ways out there. There were some reported tornadoes in the area that night, not near us but just north of us.
There is a basement in the house we rent, though of course not under ground. Living in the mid-west I am very familiar with tornadoes. We have no basement in our house either...our "safe room" is my computer room, small room, center of the house, no windows...idiot who added family room to this house just closed back wall and window of this room and added the family room so this one has no window! Good for "termado" (as my four year old granddaughter calls them) protection.

Not a big storm but check out these clouds. It looked like the air was getting sucked into a big raincloud, it wasn't blowing up into a big T-head though.
