    BraveSentry removed? - problems remain

BraveSentry infection -wasn't able to do anything...no Task Mgr, no internet connection, running very slow, annoying popups, & more - even disabled my printer - a mess to say the least.

Using an uninfected pc and a usb stick to download apps & transfer to the infected pc, I ran SmitfraudFix in safe mode. Most problems went away but the pc is still extremely slow to follow any command, the hour glass is constantly showing & no internet connection.

I would appreciate any help you can offer. I'm way over my head here.

    Here is the hjt log:

    Hello pkraft,

Have you already gone through PP's Sticky? If you have not done so, then please do this first.

Next, download my own CleanupXP+ from this post (read post to familiarize yourself with the tool but it is pretty straight forward).

After following the PP's sticky, reboot in Safe Mode one last time to run CleanupXP+, after the standard cleaning process, press 2 when prompted for 'Remove a Folder' option and enter the following bold path as shown:
    C:\WINDOWS\web

Then use option 1 for 'Remove a File' and enter the following:
    WinStart001.EXE

to delete them if still existed, afterwards reboot in Normal mode and run another HijackThis, make sure IE is NOT running this time or any time you run the HJT scan as you had the last time:
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
    !

If the following entry still remain you will have to use LSP-Fix to remedy it, you could also try to see if HJT can fix it:
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'rsvp32_2.dll' missing
But we will go over that if it is applicable.

Please, do not use MSConfig to modify any startup entries. If you indeed did so, please revert your changes back:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

Have HJT Fix the following when you are in the Safe Mode:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WINSTA~1.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System\WINSTA~1.EXE -b
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinStart001.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System\WinStart001.EXE -b
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dumprep 0 -k

I am sorry I do not have much time to get in to details nor provide detailed instructions at this time but what I recommended should get you started in the right direction with some positive changes in your condition.

Please do no install/uninstall any programs or make any other changes during the disinfection process other than what is advised here, ok?

Either myself or one of the Spyware gurus will check in later on.

Thank you for your reply TL. Going thru PPs tickys....

I have no internet connection on the infected pc. I can download to a usb stick & load it but can't get updates online for the AVG Anti-Spyware. Ok? Should I continue thru the steps?

Then, for now, do whatever you can but I think you will have to skip the sticky. Do the others i mentioned and we will go from there.

should I do this before running it again? - RENAME hijackthis.exe to hjtscan.exe or analyze.exe

I have always used the selective startup in msconfig - should I revert to normal startup?

Yes, renaming HijackThis could be helpful and wise and also make sure it is running from its own program folder, ok?
Also, make sure you do not have anything else running in the background when you are running the HJT scan (Safe Mode in a sense helps with that).

Yeah, it could be helpful to see the real deal but not a must-do at this point as long as you knew what you were doing. Curious, what did you disable?
Still, continue with the other instructions I mentioned. Judy is back and she usually runs the Spyware show so if she decides to cut in with her set of instructions, please proceed with her instructions instead, ok?

Otherwise I will do my best to help.

TL - Renamed HijackTis exe file & put it in it's own folder.

I didn't change the startup to normal. The ones I disabled are mostly apps that I don't want to startup unless I need them, i.e. outlook, officre, direct CD, Symantec Ghost, etc.

However, there are some listed in the startup that are disabled and I know they're not 'good' ones. I didn't have the nerve to check them yet ... the pc is so very, very slow right now some apps I can't even open & getting anything done on it takes forever plus a couple of hours! Anyway the ones that show ar BraveSentry, NewDot~1, sferrt (can't remember what this is) and EZthems_WhenUSaveNow_Installer (not sure about this one either).

I ran cleanupxp+ in safe mode & followed your instructions. Rebooted to normal. Tried to run HJT in normal mode but that wasn't going anywhere. Rebooted to safe mode & ran it there.

Fixed all the items you listed except:
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'rsvp32_2.dll' missing
Message said it couldn't fix it & needed to use LSP Fix. I didn't do that yet. Will wait to hear back on that.

    The other item:
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 - {e2e2dd38-d088-4134-82b7-f2ba38496583} - C:\WINDOWS\Network Diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe
This one didn't hav a box in front of it for me to check.

You asked: What do you know about the following entry??

I don't know anything about it or why it would be there.

    Hey pk,

In the previous post, I asked you to have the CleanupXP+ remove a file and a folder I specified, have you done that because I still see both entries on your last log and both are identified baddies that need to go!!

I will try to follow up on this tomorrow (about to hit the bed), since Judy is back I will ask her to go over this if she doesn't comment on the LSP Fix, I will get back to you on that but there really isn't any point in fixing what can be broken again due to the still present baddies on the system, u know what I mean? We need to clean up a bit more at least before using the LSP Fix.

Uh also, I just updated my passive scanner tool called AnalyzerXP, please click on the link in my signature (post #1) and download a copy. Then transfer it to the infected system and try running it in Normal mode to see if it goes, if not then Safe Mode. When the File Locator section prompts you for in-depth file search and you have a pretty good idea about when this infection started, then enter that date. Searching for ALL Files created would be more complete but if the date is more than a few days, it could also be a long list so I suggest you go another day or two earlier than the suspected date and search for EXECUTABLES only for now, ok?

Please attach the log to your next post.

    To be continued...

Do as ~TL has requested and we both will take a look at the logs tomorrow.
