i think i killed my mobo

i opened up my case this afternoon to clean out some dust, and after i put it back together, it won't turn on. i'm clearing cmos right now, but i'm gonna be pissed if it's dead. i can't afford to buy a new one. if i can't fix this i am going to be pissed. at least i still have my laptop i suppose.

I would reseat everything if you haven't tried that already. Most likely you've bumped something and it's not seated correctly.

well after clearing cmos didnt work, thats what i did. for some reason it still didnt turn on right away. i had to hold the power button for a couple seconds. and when it finished booting, the clock said it was 11am, december 3rd 2005. generally when i clear cmos, it boots up at midnight january 1st. kinda wierd i'm just glad i didnt need a new mobo.

btw is there any way i can get my mod status back? after i posted in the freak show i realized i should have put it here, in hardware, but alas, i could not.

    Hmmm...I dunno!

What do you think F1, do we grant "mod" status to those who come this close to frying their own mobos?

Seriously, I wouldn't mind giving your the 'mod' title but since my own administrator profile is not set up correctly, I can only ban people not change other stuff.
I will have to let F1 handle this, sorry...

most often the major hardware problems are simply needing the simplest fix
i have had to replace optical disc drives and PSU, every other issue has been a zero cost repair

a couple weeks ago my system refused to boot - scrubbed the dust bunnies out (then had to vacuum the carpet, what a mess!) reseated the RAM and all is well in my world

always always always do the things that you can do for free and you will find you rarely need to purchase anything

fact is, on a desktop system the components are quite durable and you will most likely upgrade your system long before it actually fails

Also, you might want to re-consider your cleaning/dusting method inside your PC going forward. If you got big hands or generally clumsy, be very careful otherwise you might want to do fewer cleanings!
