Got a good one with Add/remove Programs

Here's a good one for you guys....I can't figure it out and I've baffled a few other people.

Below are three screenshots of my Add/Remove programs list, the top is the start and the bottom is the end of the "blob" that baffles me. Anybody have any ideas?

See if you can open registry editor and browse to this location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

within the Uninstall sub-key you will see all OS installed and user installed entries which most would also appear in the Add-Remove Programs applet.
Try clicking on each one of them on the left hand side to see if you get any errors when it tries to display its sub-keys,values, etc. which would appear on the right hand side.

Hint: What is the next entry on the list that comes after DriveImage XML?

Thanks TL, I didn't know where Add/remove got it's list from....I looked in that list and there is no DriveImageXML name on there....just a listing of a UID. None of the entries gave me errors when I opened them. They all opened fine.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{FF04A828-ABA4-11D7-A021-0060979CE4D3}

That's the key right after DriveImage XML and that refers to my v92 PCI Faxmodem, which is in my Add/remove list towards the bottom....

    Any other ideas?

Can you export the entire 'Uninstall' key to a file, call it something like uninstall so it saves it as 'Uninstall. reg', then attach it to your post and let me take a closer look, ok?

If it is in invalid or excessive value in one of the data fields I am thinking about, then I should.

It might be a case of corrupt system files, mainly related to Add-Remove programs such as appwiz.cpl and/or msvcrt.dll > for this, boot in Safe Mode, then hide those two files (by renaming them, don't delete them!) then reboot in Normal Mode and:
    START > RUN > sfc /scannow > OK

You might want to give that a shot while I am checking your registry file.

No go. I renamed the files appwizold.cpl and msvcrtold.dll, but then the system wouldn't boot, safe mode or not. I had to go back in with BartPE and rename the files back to the original names and I booted fine....

    Here's what I found :

    1. It could be one of the XP patches from MS; if you can get the updates to appear in the list, try removing one at a time (Then reboot) taking note of which ones you remove.

    2. If you have an XP install disk, insert it and using the 'Run' command, type sfc /scannow to use the System File Checker which can determine if you have any corrupted system files. SFC will NOT run on XP without the install disk.

I am sorry Gizmo , I was at work and didn't get a chance to test it ahead and that is the reason why I suggested not deleting them.
You should have been able to rename appwiz.cpl and reboot fine but like F1 mentioned, without modifying the files, just run the sfc /scannow if the files were corrupted, etc. the tool should extract the good ones from the XP CD.

It will only ask for the CD if you do not have the habit of copying the i386 folder from the CD to your local disk and chage the data of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" > SourcePath value to wherever you saved the i386 folder at.
