Thread: Spyware/adware/popups just wont go away

  1. #21
ok, I used pocket killbox to delete the files and made the changes to the registry, nothing bad happening so far, ran a quick scan with Spybot and Windows Defender and nothing came up. I've attached a new HJT log, is there anything else I should to make sure everything is gone anf we're ok again?

    thanks again for your assistance.

Jim, this log looks much better. You do have a few items running at Start which are unnecessary
    SunJavaUpdateScheduler
    QuickTime Task
    iTunesHelper
    and AIM6.
All of those can be run manually but are not necessarily a problem.
Personally, I would leave that AdAware2007 turned off and just use it for scanning only. The same goes for the AVG Anti-spyware, plus with that one, if you did not purchase it then the background protection only works for a 30 day trial. The actual manual scanner program will still work after 30 days and can be updated manually also but turn off the background scanner part of it.
One program that is highly recommended, and I can attest DOES work is SpywareBlaster from Javacool. It is a free program, you must update it manually weekly of course, but it will and DOES, as their website states,
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
It is an excellent program and it DOES NOT run in the background. If you do decide to use it be sure also to use the Restricted Website portion of the program also, also use the Immunize feature of Spybot.
The HJT log looks good. I would set a new, clean restore point on the computer too so that you know none of this junk has been saved anywhere.
    Judy
