    Can't Install Program

I have Windows XP HOME SP2.

When I run setup for a my Adobe Photoshop 5.5 program, I get an hour glass for a moment, then nothing. When I do a shift+alt+delete, I see that the Setup program is under processes, but it's not doing anything.

I confirmed that the disk is ok by trying to install the program on another computer (running XP HOME SP2).

Any ideas -- I've searched the internet and have come up not much.

I've tried installing some other programs, some work - some give me the same problem.

    Hi Diane,

This could be due to any number of issues - kinda hard to pin down.

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode and attempting the install? See if that has any effect....

Do you have admin rights on the system in question?

Thanks you for your replies. Yes to both questions.

However, norton stopped running yesterday and then firefox wouldn't work. So I unintalled all of norton this morning with a norton removal tool and *bing* everything is now working.

    stupid norton.

    Glad to hear it!
That's the direction I was leaning - Something was running and blocking the install.

Lots of less bloated AV options out there besides Norton. You might like to try Kaspersky or the Free AVG....
