okay so since last night my computer has decided to just not start up. Every time it gets to the Windows XP loading screen a BSOD appears and it crashes back and tries to restart again.
I took a photo of the BSOD on my phone but the picture is a bit fuzzy. From what I can make out it says:
"A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to protect your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ati2dvag.dll
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

It then says to restart my pc and if that doesnt work to make sure any new software is installed... The only new software installes was Spysweeper the new beta one, spyblaster and the new hijackthis. I also removed Microsoft VM java.

The BSOD then goes on to say
    "Technical infomation:
    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xB9B15000, 0x00000000, 0xBFA08093, 0x00000000)
    *** ati2dvag.dll - address BFA08093 base at BF9d50000, Datestamp 43fbdea6"

Then it says its dumping memory.

Atm It will run in safe mode, i ran all antiviruses and spyware stuff I had, only tracking cookies came up. Anything else i can do?
    Cheers
    Tom

The file noted is your display driver. Have you tried updating the driver or have you recently updated the driver? If so maybe you used the wrong driver.
If you just installed spysweeper and this happened, then I certainly would uninstall that program and see if it makes a difference. Plus you say this is a beta version of spysweeper, beta means it is not the finished product, so to speak, it is still being tested.
Have you checked the Event Log to see what shows there concerning your error? Control Panel, Administrative Services, Event Viewer.
The java you should be using is SunJava

    Hi Tom,

I concur with Judy. Have you tried replacing ati2dvag.dll?
This guy can be problematic. Perhaps a System Restore back a few days to before installing latest batch of new software might help?

You can try deleting ati2dvag.dll from system32 folder and then copy a fresh one from I386 folder into system32 (make sure you have a copy on your machine before you delete it from the system folder! - should be there, no worries).
You might need to re-register it.

I am not around often these days - have moved on to greener pastures. So hang in there until Judy can check back.

    Best Luck

I agree with PP 100%. Please re-enable those items and then run a new HJT scan for me. Also follow PP's instructions concerning the driver issue.

Okay I am now back on my PC and it is back on normal mode in the right screen resolution!
I did what PP said, deleted ati2dvag.dll and copied it in from (one of my many) i386 folder.
It started up in normal mode with the wrong screen resolution and everything, but a quick install of the most recent driver from ATI fixed that.
Log-wise there is simply way too many for me to show you unless I know what I'm looking for?
And msconfig is blocking these from starting up:
    Item
    rundll32
    CTDetect
    iTuneshelper
msmsgs (though it now has a different entry and starts up anyway)
    Inicio
    vsnp2std.exe
    Google ToolbarNotifier.exe
    tsnp2std.exe
    ZuneLauncher.exe

and a blank one... with no name or command but location:
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    New HJT log is attatched.

I actually need you to re-enable those disabled items in msconfig. Just telling me what they are doesn't show me what I need to see. Some things will hide via msconfig unless we can see the full path and files.

Okay, just a sidenote but since all the annoying stuff my internet has started to run a lot slower.
And I have allowed all the items in startup but exited with out restarting (not sure if i was supposed to restart or not?) as i figured letting bad things start up is probably a bad idea? New HJT log attatched.
    Cheers,

We actually need you to restart the computer after the re-enable of the programs in msconfig. They are not going to show in your log unless you do this. Once we know for sure what they are then we can better help you disable them properly or remove them if necessary. But just the re-enable and then the running of a new log shows exactly the same thing that showed before, we do need the restart for this to take effect. The list you gave me, really doesn't show anything bad, unnecessary maybe but not bad. But I really need to see it once the enable actually takes place and that won't happen until you shut down and reboot. Then I can better tell you what and how to get rid of some of it.

Couple of other things I need to know...exactly what logs are you talking about here?
Log-wise there is simply way too many for me to show you unless I know what I'm looking for?
    and also this...
why it won't run explorer very well? It manages sometimes but there are some folders it can't do, it just brings up the torch icon
Do you actually mean Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer and what "torch icon"? I am not familiar with a torch icon.
